Do you remember this cartoon?
I can't sleep. Try as I may, I spend most of the night tossing and turning and feeling much like the Goofy insomniac owl (minus the headboard to perch upon). We've been in this apartment for almost a month now, so it's not as if I'm suffering from disorientation or can't-sleep-in-a-new-place anxiety. It's not the dark--or the light, for that matter--we've adjusted both. It's not a temperature problem or even the noise of our "haunted" toilet (the guest bathroom commode that whistled, wheezed, dripped and trickled until my hero, the maintenance guy, replaced the flapper thingy). I've tried reading, meditating, deep breathing and counting every animal known to man, and even some imaginary. I've even taken to doing ports de bras (that's ballet, not underwear) as I lay there to break up the monotonous stream of consciousness that has become more like Niagara Falls.
Any suggestions? Any at all? Because I'm really just a few nights away from purchasing a large mallet...

I am so sorry that you are having trouble sleeping! That is the worst!!! When I got off my mission I have trouble sleeping for a while. My Dr. recommended I take a benadryl an hour before going to bed. It is not addictive, but make sure to drink lots of water because it can dry you out. It totally worked for me. Good luck!
Dave has trouble sleeping just about every night. He moves to the couch, and immediately falls asleep. I don't know what it is, but the couch just makes him less anxious about getting to sleep.
One thing my mother-in-law used to tell her kids was to pretend they were asleep. Ted told me that once and it helped me a lot. Just lay there and literally pretend your asleep. Sounds cooky but sometimes it works.
Oh, and when Olivia can't sleep, I stick a pacifier in the mouth, wrap her in a fuzzy blankie, and rock her and shush her. See of Jordan is up for that. ;)
get pregnant. you will be tired for 9 months
I only ever have trouble sleeping when I'm pregnant, and even then it's not so bad, soooo I'm not help at all. I hope your mystery insomnia goes away soon!
